Woman to Serve Year for Daycare Death
Yesterday's judgment comes a year and seven days after Noah Alexander Colassaco was found fatally injured at Elizabeth P. Noakes' home in a subdivision just south of Providence Elementary School. The boy died in a freak accident after he poked his head between the top of his crib and a cardboard divider that Noakes had placed over it and weighed down with a 32-pound metal dog crate folded flat. Noakes, who watched other children in her home for several years, testified at her June 25 trial that she placed the items on top of the crib to deter the boy from standing up and crying or making noise during nap time. She said she carefully tested and balanced the items so they wouldn't fall or cause the child any distress.

Live-In Babysitter Charged with Murder
A live-in babysitter is charged with two counts of murder, in the death of a three-month-old child. Police arrested 30-year-old Jesse Edwards for the death of Carlito Ortiz. Police say that about two weeks ago, the infant stopped breathing as Edwards was giving him a bath. Eight days later, the boy died. Medical experts who've reviewed the case say Ortiz's brain injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
