Woman Convicted of Killing, Dumping Newborn at Hicksville LIRR
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced Wednesday that a judge has found Erma Stephens guilty of 2nd degree manslaughter in connection with the December 2006 death of her newborn son. Nassau County Judge George Peck also found the 35-year-old, who worked as a nanny at the time of the crime, guilty of tampering with evidence. He acquitted the defendant of the second-degree murder.

Baby-Sitter, 26, is Given Probation in Infant's Death
A judge has sentenced a baby-sitter to 2 years' probation in the 2003 death of an 8-month-old child. Catherine Fencl, 26, of Belleville, Illinois pleaded guilty but mentally ill to involuntary manslaughter Wednesday in the death of a neighbor's child, Christopher Thayer.
