Babysitter charged with sleeping with teen in her care (Las Cruces, N.M.)
Annette Martinez, 25, has been arrested for having sex with a 14-year-old boy who was in her care. When interrogated, she said that she was in love with the boy and had sex with him 40 times over the summer while she babysat him and his two siblings. Martinez has been charged with one count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and has other charges pending.

Baby of Deployed Soldier Held for Ransom (Colorado)
His mother is a soldier deployed in Iraq. His father ison duty at Fort Carson. So an 8-month-old baby in Colorado Springs was left with a babysitter for 16 days. Police say, when his father tried to retrieve him from the sitter, that person demanded a ransom and held the father at knifepoint. The baby is now in the hospital, undernourished. Police say there was severe swelling on the right side of the baby's head.

Babysitter's Husband Accused Of Child Endangering (Ohio)
A 28-year-old Middletown man is under arrest after a one-year-old girl suffered several broken bones and brain injuries. Matthew Cofield is charged with felony child endangerment and obstructing official business. The child was rushed to the hospital Wednesday night from his Middletown home. Cofield's wife was babysitting the child at the time.

Louisville police arrested 73-year-old Charles Greve after the girl told her parents about the abuse. Police say Greve's daughter was baby-sitting the child at the time.

Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault of Girl (Virginia)
A 27-year-old Gainesville man pleaded guilty in Prince William Circuit Court on Thursday to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in April. Jose Mauricio Hernandez Hernandez, 27, of the 13600 block of Shire Place in Gainesville, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery.
Prosecutors dropped two other charges of attempted rape and taking indecent liberties with a minor. Prosecutors said that the victim, a 10-year-old girl, went to her babysitter's house in the 13600 block of Shire Place on April 23. Hernandez answered the door and told the girl that her babysitter was not home.

The parents of a child allegedly injured by a babysitter last April are suing the woman.
According to police, Tami Joy Harbaugh, 26, of 700 Westside Drive, was taking care of Jackson Lohr, now almost 11 months, on April 21, 2008. Harbaugh told police she became frustrated and thrust the child onto the ground. Police said the alleged attack fractured the child's skull and caused the space between the infant's brain and brain cover to bleed. Harbaugh did not seek medical attention for the infant.

A southeast Kansas woman formerly charged with statutory rape pleads guilty to a reduced charge. Ashley Thompson, 23, of Columbus was accused of having sex with her 15 year old babysitter.

The woman behind the wheel, Melissa Musgrave-Brown, 37, of Upper Township, was injured but conscious. What she said next was a rescuer's nightmare.

"She said she needed to find her kids," State Police Trooper Michael Sitarik said.

The troopers and firefighters took a closer look around them and saw two car seats on the road. A third was still in the back seat. Toys, children's books and small shoes were scattered about the bits of the truck's crumpled plastic and broken glass.

A Hanover man is accused of slapping an 11-month-old girl in the face while she was in the care of a licensed daycare facility near New Oxford. The alleged abuse caused significant bruising and swelling, according to court documents. Charging documents state that 31-year-old Bobby Wolfe, Jr., of 53 Hemlock Drive, told police the alleged incident was an accident.

On June 5, Brown said a babysitter placed the toddler on a kitchen counter, which Brown described as flush against the open window, with a flower box attached to it.
The sitter turned toward the stove at the Palo Alto townhouse, and seconds later looked back at the boy. By then, he had disappeared and plunged more than 12 feet to the pavement below, Brown said.

Sitter's Snooze Turns Two Toddlers Loose
Police found two toddler-age children wandering Thursday morning without adult supervision in the area of George Street. Police Chief Edward Mello said police got calls that the children were alone. The children were taken to the police station for a few minutes and were quickly reunited with their mother. Mello said a teenage babysitter fell asleep, which allowed the children to wander from the George Street residence.

One "Mortal Kombat Killer" Avoids Prison Term (NY)
Heather Trujillo, the babysitter implicated in the death of 7-year old Zoe Garcia, has been given an 18-year suspended sentence, according to a report from Colorado NBC News affiliate 9 News. Trujillo, who was arrested along with her boyfriend Lamar Roberts, will instead spend six years in a youth offender program as part of a plea bargain. The two were charged with child abuse after acting out — in their own words — Mortal Kombat moves, kicking, punching and body slamming the young girl in December of last year.

Judge Gives Babysitter 18-year Prison Sentence (NY)
Rebecca Polomaine was convicted in April of first-degree assault. The jury found she smashed Riley’s skull while the girl was in her care March 27, 2007. After hearing from both of Riley’s parents, Brad and Lisa Gilbert, along with Polomaine and, in an unusual move, Polomaine’s sister-in-law, Giardino sentenced Polomaine to 18 years in state prison. An audible gasp went through the courtroom, packed with 50 Polomaine and Gilbert relatives, as Giardino pronounced sentence. The families, which had once been close, were separated on either side of the courtroom gallery.

City Boy, 17, Charged in Toddler Rape (Rhode Island)
A 2-year-old girl was beaten, bitten and raped by a teenage babysitter Sunday, police said. The babysitter, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested about 1 a.m. Monday, several hours after the toddler was allegedly brutalized. Detective Lt. Timothy S. Paul said he was charged with first-degree sexual assault by means of forcible rape and first-degree child abuse.

Lockland Police Arrest Another Alleged Bad Babysitter
Police said if a car not did not stop in time, it would have hit a two-year-old child in the middle of the street Monday night. The child was nearly hit in front of the police station on North Cooper Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Police said no adults were found near the child. Police later found 26-year-old Kristin Fritsch. She is facing one count of child endangerment.
